Art-U room presents Tokyo Kamen’s new creation ‘Noah’s Ark’ at Aqua Art Miami in December 2008. Two artists of Tokyo Kamen consider that our planet is currently entering on a phase of radical transition, signs of which are seen as a chain of natural disasters caused by global warming, worldwide depression, etc., and by doubling these phenomena with the story of Noah and his family in the Book of Genesis they made an installation work which consists of five oversized dolls. According to the artists, it’s the insects who sense the change on the Earth first of all creatures, hence they cut out from vinyl sheet a great variety of silhouetted insects and inserted them on the parts of mask, knee pads and soles of each member of this furry clan of Noah. Their eyes, glitter like convex mirrors, reflect the figures of the viewers themselves as if they are posing a riddle like the Magic Mirror Gate in Michael Ende’s ‘The Neverending Story’. Will you accept the truth of your personality reflected on these eyes and be allowed to pass through to the other side, or be permitted to go aboard of Noah’s Ark?
