Vu Dan Tan created Icarus in 1999 in Oakland, USA, for the exhibition Rien Car Nation hosted by Pacific Bridge. After the exhibition, Icarus was transported to Vietnam  next year and a local performing artist Dao Anh Khanh made a performance on its arrival day in Hanoi. The event,  accompanied by an improvised music by Vu Dan Tan and other artists, continued for 6 hours.

イカロスはオークランドのPacific Bridgeが1999年に主催した展覧会Rien Car Nationのためにアメリカで制作された。翌年作品はヴェトナムに運ばれ、ハノイに到着した日に、地元のパフォーミングアーティスト、ダオ・アィン・カィンによる歓迎パフォーマンスが行なわれた。６時間にも及んだこのイベントには、ヴー・ザン・タンや他のアーティストも即興の音楽を奏でて参加した。
